The Hotel Aldeia dos Lagos was built as a part of the Project "Silves: a
Project for Ecotourism and the local community in Brazilian Amazon" executed by ASPAC with technical support of the
WWF and sponsored by the Austrian Government and WWF.
The purpose of the project is to become the first feasible undertaking for the community for Ecotourism in
Amazon Region. The profits will be used to help in the conservation of the lake system for fishing in the region, and to improve the quality of life of the people from
Silves.
Activities
Tour 1 - Bird Island (April to September)
Excursion in motorized canoe observing parrots, garças and other birds that spend all night on these islands, far from predators.
Tour 2 - Preserved Lakes
Canoe ride to get to become familiar with the preserved sanctuary lakes. With luck it is possible to observe a variety of aquatic flora and fauna, like caimans, dolphins, fish, birds and small animals.
Tour 3 - Tour creeks (Igapós), the land (terra firme) and the flooded region (várzea).
- From December to September
Tour a labyrinth of flooded forest by canoe. Glide under the tree branches. This is a good opportunity to swim in the clear and clean water of an Igapó.
- From March to August
Using small canoes, this tour takes us along the margin of "várzea" lakes to see fruit trees, plants and fauna, discovering the secrets of local fish.
Tour 4 - Trekking in the Jungle
This tour takes us by motorized canoe to a local family's house. The trek crosses the crop and pasture until we go into the native forest. Centenarian trees of rich wood, a natural trek to observe and learn about flora and fauna from the Amazon.
Tour 5 - Rio Amazonas by Canaçarí (February to September)
Using motorized canoes, we cross the large "várzea" of Canaçari Lake until the Liberato channel, entrance to the majestic Amazon River. Observation of the characteristics of the river and experience the power its current. Stop at the community of Santa Maria and walk through a Coconut crop until a typical house in the community. Keep in contact with local people and their habits, tasting many delicious fruits from the region, homemade chocolate, their products and raw material. It is possible to have lunch here.
Tour 6 - Primitive fishing and overnight picnic with the community
In small canoes with community guides, travelers can practice fishing using primitive methods from the community's past, using small nets or spearing the fish. Fish caught during the day are cooked and served during a big picnic at a beach close to the local village, similar to the past traditional meetings of the community. On the beach, around a bonfire, local people tell mysterious stories from the Amazon.
Tour 7 - Cultural day and interchange
Visit the city to learn about social and cultural characteristics. Next, visit the house of a "cabloco" (local people) to learn about behavior, life-style, economic activities, family structure and natural medicine. At a place where manioc powder is made, a light meal based on manioc is served. In the afternoon, time for a short rest and at night, a party organized by the community includes local music and dance.

Ground Transfer (about 4 hours): paved road from Manaus to Itacoatiara.
Water Transfer (about 1 1/2 hours): from Itacoatiara, using a motor boat transfer via the Canaçari lake to Silves island.
During the summer, it is possible to get to Silves by a road (90 km) and inter municipal bus.
Baggage: should be kept to a maximum of 15 kg per person due to the boat transfer |
