The Cristalino River is a tributary to the Teles Pires River which together with the Juruena River forms the Tapajós River, one of the main tributaries of the right bank of the great Amazon River. This is Southern Amazon in Brazil. Cristalino Jungle Lodge is nestled in the Cristalino Forest Reserve, a huge area of primary forest and a renowned region of rich diversity of fauna and flora and of numerous specialty birds endemic only to this region.

Program Summary

Day 1
Afternoon - Arrival in Alta Floresta, welcome drink at the Hotel Floresta Amazônica. Transfer to the Cristalino Jungle lodge. Accommodation, dinner, slide show of the local fauna and flora. Library and maps available.

Day 2
Early wake up to observe the awakening of the forest in our 50 m canopy tower. Breakfast. Motor boat up river, walking the Brazil Nut Trail, with a stop over at the "Limão" rapids. Float down river with boat engine switched off or canoeing and wildlife viewing. Swimming along the river, by the floating deck or by the rapids, before lunch.
Late lunch. Opportunity to choose between walking the "Rocky" trail to the Tree House, or participate in supervised activities at the ropes and rapel (including course). Dinner by campfire. Night caiman spotting by the floating deck or in motor boats. Observation of nocturnal life in the forest.

Day 3
After breakfast, walk the "Caja" Trail. Swimming before lunch.
Lunch. Motor boat up river, hiking the Sierra trail and observing the sunset. Optional : Tree house late afternoon to look for nocturnal mammals.

Day 4
After breakfast walk the "Cacao" trail . Return down river with boat engines switched off or canoeing. Wildlife viewing. Swimming along the river, by the floating deck or by the rapids, before lunch.Lunch. Boat down to "Ariosto" island on the Teles Pires River. Walk the island's trails and watch the magnificent sunset.
Option a: Return from the island looking for caimans. Possible view of giant otters and tapirs. Candlelight farewell dinner by the campfire.
Option b: Transfer to the city of Alta Floresta. Overnight at Hotel Floresta Amazônica. Relaxing in the beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Dinner.

Day 5
Option a: Breakfast. Transfer to Alta Floresta, lunch at the Floresta Amazonica Hotel and transfer to the airport.
Option b: Breakfast at the Floresta Amazônica Hotel in Alta Floresta. Possibility of viewing local crafts before departure or walking the trails at the back of the Hotel in the private forest reserve; lunch and transfer to the airport.

General Information

Capacity: Minimum of 2 people. 24 travelers in 8 bungalows with private bathrooms and solar heated showers. Dormitory style buildings with 18 places and 9 toilets and shower.
Location: The Cristalino Jungle Lodge is located 28 miles (45 km) from Alta Floresta in the state of Mato Grosso. There is no access to the lodge by road.
Level: Easy Level Ecotourism
Included: Full board at the lodge and at Floresta Amazonica hotel; day tours as described; local guides (German and English); ground transfer in-out in air-conditioned vehicles; boat transfer in-out.
Not Included: Any extra services; soft drinks; laundry; wildlife preservation fee; airfares.
Wildlife Preservation Fee: It has to be paid in cash to the Cristalino Ecological Foundation upon arrival in Alta Floresta. That's to support the Cristalino State Park.
Personal Gear: T-shirts, long sleeved shirt, jeans or track suits, sneakers or hiking boots, raincoat, mosquito repellent.
